focus 11

FOCUS ELEVEN is a diocesan-wide event started several years ago by the Bishop of Orlando. Originally, it was a program that would focus on the eleventh graders (juniors), and the students who are eleven years old (6th graders) attending Catholic schools across the diocese. The original plan provided for a three-day event that featured priests, missionaries, nuns, representatives of church affiliated organizations, sometimes musicians, who would talk about their role in the Church. All would provide information through presentations, displays, and hand-outs. There were directed activities during the day. Students were bussed in each morning, greeted by the Bishop, and attended Mass at Holy Family Church in Orlando.

At the start, CCW had a variety of duties: put up a display, monitor the scavenger hunt, choose poster winners, and help during lunch times. Currently, we are the “Council of Cookie Caterers” !

This year, Focus Eleven is scheduled for April 7 and 8, 2025 at Holy Family Church, 525 S. Apopka/Vineland Road, Orlando. Our responsibility this year is to provide cookies (with NO PEANUTS, NO PEANUT BUTTER) during the lunch times. As of this writing, I have no information on the number of attendees, but in the past, each affiliation was asked to donate twelve (12) packages for this event. To get the cookies to Holy Family, perhaps arrangements could be made with the teacher/aide/school bus driver to bring the cookies with them! Upon arrival at the church, we ask that the cookies be brought to the auditorium where the students will have lunch.

What do we do with the cookies?? Well, we need a few ladies to volunteer to set out the cookies before each lunch time (there are usually three lunch times) each day. We need 3 or 4 ladies total each day from 9:30a to about 1p. I will be there both days, so I need the help of 2 or 3 ladies each day. You need only to volunteer for one of those days.

IMPORTANT! IF YOU VOLUNTEER, YOU NEED TO BE VETTED...it will be to our advantage if you are already on the diocesan roster of church helpers..., but do encourage “first-timers”! AS SOON AS POSSIBLE..please submit the name of your volunteer (her full name, name of Parish, date of birth). I am to send this information to the diocesan contact for re-affirmation.

Thank you, again, for your support of this diocesan-wide event that focuses on our children.

CCW supports diocesan events!

Let’s keep our record at 100% !!

Many thanks and blessings,

Sue Miller

NCCW Prayer to End Human Trafficking
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come to you today asking for your help with abolishing human trafficking.
We ask you to rescue those who are trafficked and are slaves and bring them to
safety without more harm. Help them to receive the proper guidance, counseling,
shelter and healing that is needed for them to overcome this violent act that was
placed upon them.
We pray for the families and friends of those trafficked that they may receive the grace and strength
required to persevere as they agonize over the loss of their missing loved ones and that You grant them
the joy of welcoming them home.
We pray for those who rescue and rehabilitate the victims of human trafficking that they work with
success, compassion, mercy and support from their communities.
We pray for just laws that prosecute the trafficker and the purchaser, and not the persons trafficked.
Grant Your wisdom to legislators, law enforcement, and courts around the world that they bring this
horrific practice to an end.
We pray for a world where there is no need for an impoverished family to send a child into a trafficking
situation; no need for a troubled youth to leave home and fall victim to trafficking; and no need for
persons to be tricked or sold into sex or labor trafficking.
We also pray for the traffickers, that they will stop these evil acts upon innocent lives.
God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, be our protector. Grant us the courage, strength,
and ability to fight successfully to end the scourge of human trafficking. Amen.
